First Post

I collect pictures of things I see when I'm walking through the streets of New York.

This collection began a few years ago when a professor suggested that I keep a point-and-shoot camera with me at all times so that I could document things I encounter and find visually compelling.

When I moved to New York I began to notice certain things are very commonly found on the sidewalk. At first I noticed crushed cans.

Then I began to notice baby shoes and socks. I noticed lost jewelry and hair extensions.

My first intentional collection of things found on the sidewalks was dead birds. I would find one a week or so. In the early summer dead birds and chicks are more common.

This led to my interest in discarded chicken bones, which are all over the sidewalks.

This summer I am collecting images of things melting on the sidewalk.

Please contribute images to my blog. If you notice something recurring in your neighborhood, I invite you to start your own image collection and add it on to this blog.
